This thread was never intended to be a "My ranger will kick your warrior's ass" thread, although I agree they always seem to degenerate into that, and it's too bad. Although I do find it amusing that you describe that kind of talk as "sickening," and in the very next sentence describe how you will "rape" any other class...
The thread was meant to be, and I think to some degree is, a discussion of a very specific instance of strategy and gameplay - not just what skills to use, but how to use them, etc. Unfortunately for me, nearly every piece of advice involves pin down and/or throw dirt, which I don't have yet. Guess I have to get on that.

As I've said in other threads, I have played R/W since the WPE. I can give a lot of advice here, but I'll keep it short and simple.
Unless you have attained ascention, do NOT try to 1v1 a Warrior. Overall, across the spectrum of skills, assuming you are on equal footing player-skill wise, they will eventually kill you. There are exceptions, yes, but Rangers are a strange class.
Rangers are unusually weak in the beginning. As they grow, they really come into their own. In my personal experience, your ranger will probably start to blossom around lvl 15-18, and beyond that will really start to unlock their true potential. PvP of lower levels is mediocre, but once at high level, can really be a force to be reckoned with.
Your best bet with your Ranger, is to use his/her strengths. Ranged attacks. Conditions and impairments. Elemental armor protection with good AC. Relatively self-sufficient.
Beyond that, find the style that works for you, and stick to your guns. Experience is the best teacher.

Speaking from the point of view of an anti-warrior Me/E, I can tell you that the most useful thing a ranger can do is pindown & poison a warrior, then move on to softer targets. Those 2 things alone are enough for my char., or a damage-focused Ele, to take out the warrior before he gets close and does any considerable damage to you. Rangers should focus on enemies they are designed to take out: weak caster targets.

Also, it would seem someone forgot that though I said I could rape any class, the immediate 2nd phrase is, but if you know what I'm doing, it's easily countered.... If you guess/fight properly, anyone can rape any class...

I don't play my ranger often in tombs because it's really tough to get picked up, so I'm usually on my monk because it's more exciting. Anyhow, when i do play ranger, I LOVE when warriors come for me.
I'm not an anti-warrior ranger by any means, so why do i love when warriors go for me? Because that means the other team has thier target priorities messed up. I'll pluck a pin down on 'em, with hunter's shot and poison arrow, then run. Hopefully i'll have pissed off the warrior to chase me and that's one less person going after the monk.
Targeting warriors is a poor choice of priorities for a ranger. I only attack them if they are on me and i need room to go for real targets, or if they are on the monk and i'm defending them by trying to annoy them enough for them to go after me so i can distract them and run them off. It always makes me chuckle to see warriors beating on the monk, while i sneak up behind and plant a trap under thier feet and watch it blow up on them.

This is my PITA build (pain in the arse)
Marksmanship 13
expertise 16
Wilderness 13
1) Hunter's shot
2) Poison
3) Pin down
4) Distracting shot
5) Lightning Reflexes
6) Throw Dirt
7) Res Signet
8) Troll Ungent
I don't have/use any weapon upgrades or runes.
With this setup, the majority of the time I can kill a warrior or let him beat on me while I attack another toon. The only primary warrior build that giveS me trouble are Hammer users with knockdown.
Using skills at the correct time is key. Nothing like seeing a warrior go into frenzy mode. Just click lightning reflexes and watch him die.

When I see the other team has a warrior, i ussually pick a decent spot once the battle starts up, and stick a barbed trap under my feet. That way anyone crazy enough to venture near me gets crippled. I then run back some distance and wail on them as they crawl towards me. Once the cripple/bleeding runs out I smack a hunter's shot on them. This ussually pisses them off, and brings they're health to well below 50% (If there's no pesky monk around) After that I poison them and finish them off with some final Power shots and such.
I sometimes bring a few other traps with me too, that way if they catch up after the barbed I'll hit them again with a sand trap.

I hit him with cripple then fall back into a group of my teamates. If he's dumb enough to keep coming at me, then announce that I'm using Throw dirt and turn my attention to another target, freeing up someone much more capable to take out a crippled and dirty warrior than I.
But if I don't have any teamates, Gale, Hunters shot, cripple run. Rinse, repeat. If he gets too close, Throw dirt, cripple, run like hell.

Thanks all for this thread, very useful. I did my first Ranger/mesmer in the Tombs with my guild the other night. Alot of this info is what I did, not know what exactly the best combo was. I do agree Pin Down and poison helped ALOT. Pinned down there run away monks, or Pin down the warrior that kept wanting me dead. I did not however equip enough skills that would drain and give me health or energy. Thanks for the builds and ideas!! See you in the Tombs!!

How do you get 13/16/13 stats without any runes? At a minimum that's 10+3 for each of the 13 stats, and 12+1+3 for the 16 stat; this requires 3 superior runes and 219 attribute points.

I just tried this new build.. its a DoT build ...
Conjure Phantasm + Poison Arrow = 18 health degen per second...
Fightin a Warrior with added 18 health degen per second should shift the favor in ur advantage...
I havent really tested it yet, and i think the biggest problem will be the monk healing him... so that means someone on our team should keep him busy...

As a warrior i have to say the best tactic a ranger can use against me is to :
1)Pin me
2)Move
3)Pick another moreviable target
Rangers can interupt, Daze, AoE interupt, lay traps to scupper mutiple targets... if ones shooting at me trying to hurt me im one happy warrior bacuse he's not doing what he does best to the people it hurts the most.
Dont even think about tanking a warrior becuase:
1) Its only total muppets that only carry 1 type of damage weapon
2) some of us (the every growing population of Wa/Me's) use IW + Flurry(damage you just cant mitigate), Illusion of Haste (dispells cripples), Imaginary burdon (ranged snare) and will eat you alive.

Maelstrom as well, but AoE interrupters are quite useless in PvP. Most people have the common sense to get out of the way, and you usually end up expending a lot of energy for nothing.

I ment 9 degen = 18 health degen per second...
So this one falls inside the cap...
